Welcome to Ovingham CE First School website.
We hope that it offers you lots of useful information about our school, whether you have children already enrolled here, or are looking around for a suitable school for your child.
We pride ourselves on being a happy, caring, friendly school, with very high standards of attainment and behaviour, together with an ethos in which every child is valued and nurtured. We seek to involve our whole community in the life of the school through a broad range of activities and events across the year designed to show off our pupil’s skills and talents.
Our Ofsted report of June 2012 (see the link for the full report) rated us as ‘outstanding’ in every category – something which is very difficult to achieve.
We are justly proud of this achievement.
Our SIAMS inspection (Church Ofsted) of September 2017 once again graded our school as an Outstanding Church School, in all categories despite setting the standard even higher. It is now necessary for school to be judged ‘Outstanding’ in terms of the data needed for Ofsted before the Church Inspector can give a judgement of Outstanding – so this has reinforced the fact that standards remain very high indeed, despite Ofsted being 5 years ago. This is very pleasing and endorses all the hard work and drive for continual improvement here in school.
‘The distinctiveness and effectiveness of Ovingham as a Church of England School are outstanding.’
- Christian values are articulated clearly by all of the school family and permeate the curriculum. They impact positively on the care and support given to each pupil and this in turn enables pupils to grow academically and spiritually.
- Thought-provoking and meaningful acts of worship are valued by the whole school community and lead to a distinctively Christian shared vision which guides all behaviour and relationships.
- The highly effective support given to those who lead collective worship and religious education (RE) ensures that practice in both areas is highly effective.
- Leaders work diligently, within the context of their guiding Christian values, to realise the potential of all.
Please feel free to make an appointment to look round school should you be considering sending your child to us. It is always very good to see a school whilst it is working so you can see the excellent atmosphere for yourself.
